Application of RIMES instrument in different jurisdictions
An international seminar was carried out on December 2018 to present the RIMES instrument and the results of its implementation in Spain to international experts. Special attention had gone to collecting the suggestions of the different experts on how to most effectively use the instrument in their home country and efforts will be made to promote its effective implementation in as many jurisdictions as possible.
As the instrument is applied in more and more jurisdictions we will be able to make increasingly interesting international comparisons, and, through rigorous and well-founded arguments, influence the design of less socially-exclusive criminal justice policies. That, however, will be implemented in future projects.
4.1. Testing rimes tool in 6 western developed jurisdictions:
Selected jurisdictions: Italy, Germany, U.K., Poland, California and New York
- Get in contact with experts in the jurisdictions selected to help us to test the RIMES tool. We expect that the experts of each country will be able to get us all the information, contacts and data we need to test the RIMES tool.
- One or two member of the research team will visit one country to apply the instrument
- In relation to the rules, it will be necessary to study the legislation of the selected jurisdictions
- In regard to the practices, looking for data or making empirical research will be essential
- Once the RIMES tool implementation is finalized, a reviewer from each jurisdiction will make a report to check the correct application of all the items

4.2. Testing rimes tool in 6 South American countries
Selected countries: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru
- To describe the social, economic and political of the South American countries. As well as studying the legislation and practices of the criminal justice systems of these countries.
- Applying the RIMES tool to the selected countries and to identify those rules and practices that need to be modified or incorporated to the tool
- Making reliable comparisons among the criminal justice policies of these countries
- To design a new (sub)instrument and to validate it using the same methodology than in RIMES project.
